UN helicopter attack: Security expert urges vigilance in aviation sector

The President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, has described last Thursday’s Boko Haram attack on a United Nations’ humanitarian flight as a “dangerous and grave escalation” of the insurgency.

He said the willingness to attack civil aviation, which had not previously been displayed, was exhibited in the helicopter attack and had moved the threat beyond the ordinary level.

In a statement on Monday, titled, ‘Boko Haram Attack on UN helicopter is a grave escalation’, Ekhomu said the attack was successful because the humanitarian agencies and the Federal Government did not carry out a “robust risk assessment of the flight.”
